Podcast Talk (See What I Did There?)

The show is #2 globally right now on MX.   A few of you have written in that the audio is low on Richard in some spots.  I think I can fix that further for Part 2 (I sent the show to an engineer).

Some of you have asked why the show is on MX.  A few reasons.  Most importantly, because of Home From Here the station has agreed to promote the Ivy-Style podcast, so MX is the best deal for the sponsors.  And you have to think about what drives the audience there anyway.  It is the readership of this site –

– a word about that.  I have dramatically altered the ability to comment, and that has actually RAISED readership, which accounts for the podcast’s performance to a large degree.  If you haven’t commented before, your comment gets held up.  If you haven’t commented before and you don’t give a valid email,  your comment gets trashed because you probably were already banned and are just taking another shot with another name.  And so forth (there are crazy level to this) BUT my sense is that readers would rather read legitimate content from knowledgeable commenters than sort through more BS about me or how this is elitist or whatever.   I got bored with all that, and I am pretty sure you did as well.

– back to the reason for the numbers.  This site over performs in terms of readership, for which I thank my lucky stars.  Second, the FB Group is a serious source of Ivy and they support Ivy rabidly.   So, add that to the boost of Home From Here and the fact that Richard Press is an icon, and you get these numbers.

My other thought is that no one has an hour to listen to a podcast without reference.  When is the last time you did?  You listen to a podcast because you’ve heard of it before (in which case it doesn’t matter where it is – Stern is on Sirius and crushes all of us) or because it was recommended (on our site or on FB).

At the end of the day I think it makes more sense for our sponsors to have the show available globally (more on that, too) on the internet (if you get the internet…) and have the station SUPPORT the show by boosting it and piggybacking it on another already-successful show.

THAT SAID.  This community is a VERY DIFFERENT internet space.  You all have wisdom and I am wide open.  I am very grateful, especially now that with the health stuff in my family,  that you all support the site and now the podcast the way you do.  I am working on different authors, etc.

I wish I had thought of this, but Mitchell called our site “the most civil corner of the internet.”  That is probably what I am most proud of.  You all present Ivy Style to the rest of the world in context.  It’s cool to be a part of.

JB

  1. Try running his voice track through Auphonic (for free) — https://auphonic.com/ . Among other things, its AI levels audio pretty miraculously and does several other things to improve audio too.

    Kind Regards,
