By Richard Press

As we stand at the threshold of 2026 (J. Press’ 124th year!), I look at the exciting things happening at J. Press and can’t help but think that my grandfather, founder Jacobi Press, would be bursting his buttons with pride. He established our family company to outfit the men of Yale and beyond in the finest tailoring and in classic American sportswear: the look which would, only later, become known as “Ivy style.”

I know he’d be proud of how his vision is being fulfilled today. J. Press has always been the more academic, more colorful, and yet also more classic cousin of its dour, office-bound peers. And J. Press has always innovated within the realm of the classics.

With Dr. Jack Carlson (an Oxford man) at the helm, J. Press is as committed to the classics as ever — producing more in the U.S., England, and Scotland than ever before, restoring long-lost Press staples like the patch-pocket blazer and the original O.C.B.D. collar roll, and safeguarding the Made-in-Scotland Shaggy Dog and Made-in-U.S.A. khaki for another generation.

We also have a brilliant new website, top-drawer campaigns and photoshoots, as well as rave reviews for our first runway show at New York Fashion Week: a fitting honor for the last bastion of classic American Ivy style. I know grandpa would be as pleased as I am.

Without your faithful patronage of J. Press, we wouldn’t be here. So, in addition to raising a cup of kindness to auld lang syne, we’re raising a glass to you. Thank you and Happy New Year!

Does anyone out there know what happened to the Locke sold by Brooks and Cavangh felt beaver hats worn 1930’s -1960’s that all the men wore.
Missing you Richard. Happy New Year!
Thanks for the comments Richard! I miss the days when Frank York took care of our bunch at Zeta Psi in New Haven!
Mr. Press, it is re-assuring to hear that you are happy with Mr. Carlson’s efforts. I say that because I regard you as the real thing — the real Ivy. Thank you for being our jaunty and gracious guiding star. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and I would love to read more of your tales in the coming year.
Indeed. Press on!
Happy New Year, everyone!
Kind Regards,
H-U
