Ivy Style’s Facebook group hit a milestone last weekend, surpassing 5,000 members, half of which want to strangle the other half by their necktie. And I don’t mean for not having a dimple. Or rather for having one. You get my point.
Anyway, the imperturbable souls able to brave social media in 2018 (too strong for my delicate constitution), do enjoy the benefit of 24/7 banter and first look at things like this: Charles Chester penny loafers from 1947, with plenty of interesting design details.
Perhaps too many details for some. Thank god for the spleen outlet of social media. — CC

Interesting shoe, Christian. I’m not a huge fan of the full-strap penny loafer, but it looks fine to me, even with the somewhat elaborate heel cap and pinking. Mostly, I am amazed to see a shoe from the 40s in such excellent shape. Interesting to compare this with the understated Bass and Alden versions with which most of us are more familiar. The penny slot looks quite large, a good bit larger even than that on the AE Walden version I happen to be wearing today, which draws the ire of some purists. I think it would be fun to own a bit of the past like these, and congratulate the Ivy Style FB poster who has these in his closet.
Other than the full clumsy looking thick rubber heel, I like it!
