  1. Merry Christmas to you, Matthew. Looking forward to another year of Ivy Style.

  2. Merry Christmas mid-afternoon! ON the way for a chilly walk around the neighborhood with the Grand Duchess followed by (more) Christmas dinner. I’m thinking tweed, cords, light blue OCBD, tartan necktie, and penny loafers with some Argyll socks

    Kind Seasonal Regards,

    H-U

Merry Christmas! Great look for Christmas as well. It’s hard to go wrong with the RL OCBD. It’s the only one that fits me well off the rack and they break in nice and last forever.

  5. Merry Christmas and hope for a successful and Happy New Year for the site

  6. Merry Christmas Happy Chanukah, and a hopefully Happy New Year to the most interesting corner of the internet. Thank you Matthew for keeping this great community going.

  7. Christ is born! Glorify Him!
This year I got myself a nice MTM charcoal grey flannel suit and a nice Maison Francis Kurkdijan cologne. Writing this in my L.L Bean tartan flannel robe, house mocs and Brooks pajamas.
    Cheers.

A belated Merry Christmas to all!

And some good local news from my neck of the woods: Eljo’s, the classic clothing store in town since 1950, has found new owners, and so will not be closing with the retirement of owner Myles Thurston and his son Trent at the end of this year. Best wishes to the new owners, and 75 more years of Ivy-style clothing.

Great news. Thanks for passing it along, Charlottesville. My better, smarter half went to grad school at UVA. In spring and summer, she wears a ratty, much-patched Eljo’s khaki shorts with a V-over-crossed-sabers motif. Can’t bear to part with ’em.

Merry Christmas from a prep in 🇨🇦

Throughout your website and FB I haven’t seen a single shave cream or razor recommendation.

I’m a “traditional professional” thus need to shave de rigueur.

Any insight from yourself or other readers would be most helpful. Cheers.

I would definitely recommend a double edged safety razor. They’re way less expensive than disposable razors, much more environmentally friendly and provide a much closer shave without the irritation. I use a Merkur razor. I switched to this after years of razor burn and spending an insane amount on the fancy disposable razors. I personally prefer Feather blades to use with it. I also use a badger hair brush and my favorite shave cream is Geo F. Trumpers. Other brands that provide a good shave are Taylor’s of Old Bond Street and Truefitt & Hill. Hope this helps!

    • I second R. Shackleford’s recommendation of Merkur razors and Feather blades. My Merkur is the 24C, which has an extra-long knurled handle. I use Hi-Stainless Yellow Feather blades. My brush is Parker’s ivory-handled pure boar bristle brush. My soap is Mitchell’s Wool Fat. The lather and fragrance are terrific. Once I’m done shaving, I use the brush to apply the excess soap to my arms and chest.

  10. Neglected to proofread my reply to Charlottesville. Dang it. Should’ve cut the first article in the second-to-last sentence. Mea culpa.
