Ivy Trendwatch: The Quirky Off-Center Vent

Earlier this week Gilt Groupe sponsored an “Ivy Style” flash sale with contemporary fashion pieces about as closely related to the Ivy League Look as my alma mater is to the Ancient Eight.

Now rival company Mr. Porter presents an exclusive three-button suit with patch pockets, tapered trousers and “quirky off-centre [sic] single vent.”

The suit is made by Japanese brand A Bathing Ape and carries a price tag of $1,800.

Evidently the Preppy-Ivy-Trad-Americana trend is accelerating (or petering out, depending on how fast you take your fashion) quicker than copywriters can learn the lingo. — CC

  1. I don’t know how I feel about this. Maybe if it were on a linen suit…

    Why an off center vent?

It simply looks like a manufactoring error. Maybe that’s the reason most gentlemen dislike the off center vent.

    Just kooky.

  5. Hideous. Incidentally, A Bathing Ape is best known for its T-shirts.

    ‘Nuff said.

Why the [sic] statement after “centre”? It’s British don’t you know, New England chappie. It’s an honour if you know what I mean.

I do know it’s British, which is why I put the [sic] there. It suggests the copywriter may be English, which is probably why they’re a bit confused about all this Ivy stuff.
