These undated LIFE Magazine photos of New York’s Gardiners Island have a kind of Slim Aarons quality to them.
Of course, Slim Aarons never photographed the servants.

I really like these!
I am thinking one of those guys is The Lord of the Manor.
Seeking benafactor to help me publish book “My Years on Gardiners Island” I went to the island over 100 times in the 90’s and professionally photograph every aspect.
The gardeners of Gardiners Island.
As the OPH mentions about islands: “Islands, after all, often seem apart from time – little worlds where traditions die slowly and where outsiders rearly drop by casually. And islands are special places, too – ideal for people who see themselves as special.”
Photos are by Alfred Eisenstadt.
Timeless! Such elegance… Thanks for sharing!
The photographer’s last name is spelled Eisenstaedt.
Spelling and grammar are not mere details.
such a shame the last Gardiner never got married and had children. How could someone break such a line? .. so sad
@ Corrector General – I was looking at his name in small type and missed the “e.” Somehow I think his reputation will survive the mistake.
