A Summer Place: Gardiners Island

These undated photos of New York’s Gardiners Island have a kind of Slim Aarons quality to them.

Of course, Slim Aarons never photographed the servants:

  1. I really like these!

  2. Smile!! You’re on candid camera!

  3. Candid? More like Contrived Camera.

“I’d really like you to photograph me while speeding in my boat.”

    “But sir, I get seasick…”

    “Come on, it’ll be great.”

Top-notch photos. I like the old boy in pink trousers and navy DB blazer, but his pink shirt/tie combo ruins it for me. The chap in the 2nd to last photo is wearing a green blazer with a 3/2 roll. Are his shoes black, or just very dark brown? The latter I hope. Nice effort.

Ha ha! Classic. Maybe she is admiring the size of his thick trouser cuffs. Cuff-width (or is it cuff-girth?) is a turn-on for some ladies, I’ve heard. Where on earth did you find these photos? Great catch. Though, I wouldn’t describe them as ‘Ivy Style,’ strictly-speaking.

  6. Christian: My “candid camera” remark was intended to be satirical-it is an over-the top posed picture.

  7. I am thinking one of those guys is The Lord of the Manor.

  8. Seeking benafactor to help me publish book “My Years on Gardiners Island” I went to the island over 100 times in the 90’s and professionally photograph every aspect.
