Tradition, Right-Side Up and Upside Down

Put This On‘s latest video profiles two opposing clothing brands: J. Press, the epitome of tradition, and Thom Browne, the antithesis of it (at least on the surface).

The Press segment includes an interview with Jay Walter, who spent 25 years at Brooks Brothers before heading up the made-to-measure department at the New York J. Press store.

In the Thom Browne section, the designer discusses his fondness for classic suits by Brooks Brothers and Oxxford, which probably strikes you as something akin to Jackson Pollock talking about his love for Rembrandt and Titian.

I met Browne at an event last week, and he was every bit the pleasant, unassuming guy you see in the video. He was also — perhaps for a triumph of individuality or a failure of evangelism — the only one there dressed like Thom Browne. — CC

“He was also … the only one there dressed like Thom Browne.”
