And so on this Fourth of July Ivy Style bids you Happy Independence Day with this festive “fun” shirt from Brooks Brothers, which is almost as old as America itself. Let the fireworks begin! (We mean in the sky, not the comments section.)
When I want to be daring, I wear a blue candy-stripe OCBD. Otherwise, it’s always solid white or solid blue. My father would have even found solid blue daring.
Like everything else B2 offers these days, this shirt is only available in “extra slim fit.” How I miss those beautiful, voluminous shirts they used to make. Are there really that many skeletal vegan hipsters out there clamoring for these preppy looks? Nothing there fits me anymore. And no, I am not that thick, fat, or muscled.
I own one of these shirts. Brooks Brothers released one last summer and always receive phrase for it. Honestly surprising because I found the purchase bold.

I find this funny, because I struggle with BB and most other brands for the opposite reason. Most shirts are too big and far too baggy. But I’m a small guy — 5’6” and 130 lbs — so I’m in the minority.
I do find the fit question interesting, though. I line clean lines, shirts that don’t pooch out around the belt, pants without tons of extra space in the waistband or legs. If there’s any rule of original prep that I don’t mind violating, it’s the fit rule.
I agree with Brice. I’m not small, but I’m slim for my height and I’ve always found it difficult to buy OCBDs that don’t make me look like a balloon. I’m really thankful for these slim fit lines every clothing brand offers these days.
Last OCBDs I bought were RL custom fit in blue and white. They look great and the fit is perfect for me. I’m not rich enough to indulge in $130 shirts. I suppose it’s a sort of crime for the most purist types over here, but at $40 at a RL outlet shop, their price/quality is unbeatable.

My husband didn’t like and wouldn’t wear this shirt, but I would if the pink were a red stripe instead. Too bad BB doesn’t sell a ladies’ version.
