Sperry Revamps Gold Cup Collection

Sperry Top-Sider recently announced it has revamped its collection of shoes and accessories called Gold Cup. Quality is promised to be higher, and of course prices are about double the usual, with boat shoes priced at $150.

For that you get, in the company’s words, “premium hand-sewn leather uppers, butter-soft deerskin lining, and Sperry’s patented ASV Technology (which reduces shock and vibration up to 30% for optimal comfort).”

There’s also quite a range of color choices, and the eyelets are 18k gold-plated, the prep equivalent of bling. — CC

  1. “18k gold-plated, the prep equivalent of bling.”

I always thought that it was brass.

This isn’t very recent at all I have owned a pair of these in amaretto for nearly two years.
They are indeed very comfortable, hard wearing and real nice looking in my opinion.
They may not be for the purists amongst us though as they have a vibram soul.

No those things are the real deal. Most comfortable pair of Sperrys I’ve ever owned. Beautiful leather and they feel like a pair of Nike free’s….they also run a 30% off sale so you can get them at a great price.

I have a pair and I hope the new “quality is promised to be higher” delivers. On mine, the darn soles got dry rot and fell apart. I’m sending them in today, I really hope they exchange rather than give me some corporate BS about how they’re not responsible.

  6. If I were going to spend >$100 on boat shoes, I would buy Quoddys. But I am not going to spend >$100 on boat shoes.

  7. I second madaket, but I do in fact own a pair of Quoddys moccasins. And they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own.
