Scoundrelous!

rl spring

Did designers at Ralph Lauren find a fountainhead of inspiration in the Rand-reading, madras-clad scoundrel from “Dirty Dancing?” This outfit from the Spring/Summer 2015 collection, at least from the waist up, echoes the screen shot in our last post. — CC

The real scandal is Ayn Rand and her love for American serial killer William Edward Hickman. Hickman was executed for raping, killing, and dismembering a 12-year-old girl.

Rand began a novel in 1928 whose so called “protagonist” was modeled on “what Hickman suggested to [her].” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Marion_Parker#Ayn_Rand.27s_The_Little_Street

  2. Mitchell S. can thank those* informed at least in part by Ayn Rand’s philosophy that his comments are not being archived by the NSA today.

    * Note that Sen. Paul was not named after the author; his given name is Randal, shortened to Randy and then Rand.

Rand was 23 years old in 1928, and still a Soviet citizen and only being in the USA for 2 years. Your “scandal” threshold is very low. Ayn Rand was still a Nietzschean.

In her notes for “The Little Street”, Rand echoed a theme used by the Left. She wrote:

“Yes, he is a monster—now. But the worse he is, the worst must be the cause that drove him to this. Isn’t it significant that society was not able to fill the life of an exceptional, intelligent boy, to give him anything to out-balance crime in his eyes? If society is horrified at this crime, it should be horrified at the crime’s ultimate cause: itself. The worse the crime—the greater it’s guilt. What would society answer, if that boy were to say: “Yes, I’m a monstrous criminal, but what are you?”

  4. OH! Ayn Rand never said, ” If I had a son he’d look just like William Edward Hickman”.

Sorry, I don’t get the relevance of the above. Is there some sort of anniversary or other event connecting Ayn Rand and William Hickman to Dirty Dancing and the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2015 Collection?

Yes, in the crazy world of Ivy-Style.com, over the past 48 hours “Dirty Dancing,” madras, Yale, Ralph Lauren, Ayn Rand and some murderer I’ve never heard of have all become strange bedfellows.

Well, Ivy-Style.com sure is a crazy world. I was expecting to hear that the designers at RL had been duped by Hollywood movie makers to promote values inversion in America by dressing everyone just like Robbie the scoundrel to further Hollywood’s fight to increase the percentage of gays perceived by those in the less educated segment of the population. That would have been just too much. So, I am glad to hear it was only a murder.

This is a crazy world and you’re funny. You should be writing for us. Email me.

    You are joking, right?

  11. I see were RL is doing the denim suit again. Everything old is new again. 😉

  12. Does anyone know if this jacket is for sale? Or simply a prototype?

  13. Garrett

I couldn’t find it on RL site.

  14. I have a Stafford one from a few years ago. It’s just as good as RL.

  15. What is wrong with the waste down?

  16. Overall, I don’t think the look is that bad.
