Longtime denizens of Tradsville surely chuckle when their perennial preferences become temporarily trendy. Then again, perhaps the current Atomic Age influence on menswear is not an ephemeral fashion blip, but a veritable Reconstruction of the American Wardrobe.
What we have here is a double-shot endorsement of the trouser cuff, which probably owes a lot to Thom Browne. The image above is from Valetmag.com, which in a post today extols the virtues of cuffs on the buzz-generating LL Bean Town & Field Pant, here paired with Bass penny loafers.

On a related note, it should be interesting to see these “trend-setters” revert back to classic clothing, and inevitably destroy the principles for which it was meant to exist–to be classic. I tend to stick w/ cuffs on everything, lots of classic oxford button downs, and Barbour anything outdoors. Lucky me, now I get to share that great style with some idiot-hipster from Park Slope or Chelsea who was just last season wearing skinny jeans, “old-skool Nikes,” and graphic tees.
Personally, I think trousers looks awful without cuffs. My son-in-law has the opposite view. (I was going to write more, but decided to just leave it at that). Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend – cuffed or cuffless.

Furthermore the suit is not too small, he is going for the classic continental look most dandies wear in Europe.
As a taller gentleman (6’3-4″ish), cuffs help to break up the long legs and add make things look more proportionate. My tailors and mens’ clothing salesmen have been telling me the same thing for years.
Cuffs are for pants with pleats, DB jackets, and odd trousers.
That being said, rules are meant to be broken.

The ideal cuff is a much more robust 1.75″, as opposed to the skimpy one featured.
And in the GQ video, Michael Bastian advocates the two-incher.
1.25 = too small
2 = too big for some
1.5 or 1.75 is best for most.
Was it me, or did his suit look several sizes too small for him?
Nothing wrong with cuffs on a pair of flat front pants. I have them on nearly all my khakis.

I’ve always been a cuff guy, too, but what’s with that jarring, annoying video editing? I just about got seasick watching it.
