I do see a sport coat I like from J. Press.
It’s about time the sack suit was revived. It may not be to everyone’s liking but, this is how Ivy style reaches a wider audience. I hope this comes to the Brooks Brothers stores in Dubai. It’s a step in the right direction, we’ll likely get more suits, sport coats and blazers somewhere down the line.
The shade of the green poplin may be a bit bilious for my hidebound taste, and the lapels perhaps a bit narrow, but a 3-button sack from Brooks is indeed a step in the right direction. Are you able to provide links to the J. Press sale and BB suits you mention?
Charlottesville,
The photo, just beneath the Post Comment button is a link to J Press Spring and Summer. Click on it or tap it.
I hope J. Press mails me a catalogue. I just can’t seem to want buy off the computer images.
The Press link is just below the latest comment.
I would prefer a wider lapel. Otherwise, they look like the suits/jackets
I wore during the heyday.
I haven’t figured out the first suit’s color. But if it’s British khaki(?), I like it. I really like the cut and details of these suits. Good for Brooks Brothers!
Thanks for presenting these here on the site! J. Press can, of course, generally do no wrong. Brooks has gone off the rails at various points in its history. But seeing the No. 1 Sack Suits make a comeback is very encouraging. I’m sure Michael Bastian’s hands are tied when it comes to some of BB’s mall-quality offerings, but we can probably take this development as a signal of what he really wants to do with the company, and would do, if it weren’t owned by private equity…
The cut doesn’t look like a sack to me: a sack has straight sides and the middle button doesn’t pull the cloth as if the jacket is one size too small.
“A step in the right direction” seems a bit weak. I think “a miraculous disinterment” might be more apt.
Re: Brooks cotton sack suit, says Imported which of course means made in China. Looks identical to J. Press cotton poplin suits, although my cotton poplin Press navy suit says made in Canada.
Wonder if Brooks and Press share the same Chinese manufacturers.
The BB suits are fully lined while JP’s are half lined – a big difference on a hot summer day.
