Black History Month: The Guys Of Ivy’s Facebook Group

Five years ago I asked the members of Ivy’s Facebook group if they’d like to have their uploads shared here. They agreed, and as February zooms by, I’d like to share this post once again. I’ve always particularly like the above photo.
As I wrote back in 2015, you’ll notice that when it comes to dressing these guys aren’t hidebound by narrow genre parameters. They embrace colors and juxtapositions. Above all they seem to be having fun with their clothes rather than anxiously sweating abstract or antiquated notions of correctness. They also look like pretty nice guys. — CC
Nice stuff. Certain of the item are things that I would never wear (bit loafers, critters, . . .) but I realize that my personal irrational foibles are, well, personal irrational foibles.
All great. I especially love the gorgeous broken herringbone coat with the Tattersall shirt, brown duck tie, and cords. Also the similar outfit with plaid tweed coat. Well done indeed!
All are great. See what happens when you forget about stupid sh!t like collar roll, other people’s style rules, and other menswear afflictions? Men with style enjoying their clothes.
I see very little to criticize except, as somebody already mentioned, the critters and bits. However, if these fellows were turned out in full FEC or Pitti Uomo costumes would the commenters respect them enough to give their honest opinion?
The baby is adorable by the way. I wish I were young enough to have another child. I’m waiting for mine to get out of dance class.
Quite a few good examples of taking a basic style (trad/Ivy/classic), and making it your own with unique personal touches. That’s what it is all about, far as I am concerned. Another good example is the recent pic of the older gentleman dressed in tweed and wearing a smart watch.
Old Trad, I apologize for the lack of clarity in my post. I am referring to another article with a picture of a very well-dressed gentleman wearing a tweed jacket, which prompted a number of guest posts pro and con. Unfortunately I don’t remember any other details. I remember seeing the picture, considering all the opinions, and deciding that although I personally dislike smart watches, it is appropriate for everyone to add a personal touch or two to their daily ensembles. The most interesting thing about this post to me is how positive all of the comments have been. I thought I was on the wrong blog for a moment.
I wouldn’t try to pull off wearing those white and green bucks, but nice post. And, MLK was right that it’s about content of character…

Great colour palettes, as colour combinations were being discussed a few days ago. Green, olive and brown ties are underrated these days.

Wonder if the gentleman holding the cute baby is wearing one of the older Polo Shaker knit shawl collar sweaters. They were the best.
The herringbone and glen check jackets look superb. Can anyone tell us who made or sold them?
