Any thoughts?

Ivy Style : Preppy :: Beethoven : Rachmaninoff
I’m a little rusty on my math. What does the colon between X and Y mean? Is that a division sign?
So in English, could it be this: Ivy is to Preppy like ____ is to ______
Don’t understand.
Think of it as an SAT question
I took the SAT in 1976 while covered in bruises from the losing football game I played in the night before and thus don’t remember much about it.
As tennis is to pickle-ball
This one is perfection.
I agree with KT. I cannot top Eric.
unobtrusive:loud
Miles Davis : Wynton Marsalis
As Stanford White is to Robert AM Stern.
Like a basic Venn Diagram (reaching back to my Inrto. to Logic course 30 years ago), there might be some overlap, but they are not necessarily the same thing in all respects.
Kind Regards,

This is a trick question. The correct answer is: a pink OCBD and a navy silk knit tie. You are welcome.
[Ivy League] A vintage 1965 Southwick navy blue flannel, sack-style blazer, with natural shoulders, center hook vent, three brass buttons with four smaller brass buttons on each sleeve. The purchaser of this garment knows that it will never go out of style and will give him many years of good service and satisfaction – provided, of course, that he does not gain two or three pounds each year as so many of us have.
[Preppy] The same style sport coat, circa 1980, but with tortoise-style buttons. This coat is made of small pieces of mismatched India Madras, swept up from the manufacturer’s cutting room floor, cut into identical-sized squares, and pieced together on a sewing machine to make a larger piece of cloth. That remnant cloth is then recycled through the cutting room using templates for the pattern of the aforementioned sport coat. The person who purchases this ephemeral novelty garment does not realize that he has (a) helped the coat manufacturer utilize the offal of his cutting room tables to increase his fabric yield, and (b) made a mockery of a noble East Indian, traditional, hand-woven, vegetable-dyed textile, whose beauty is only diminished by the haphazard juxta-positionings of the little squares of cloth. But, if it is the wearer’s intention to call attention to himself – “Hey, don’t look at him, look at me!” – this patchwork Madras coat is a great option.

I think I get it now. Maybe.
Man to Boy
Porsche Carrera to Toyota Supra
McCallan Single Malt to Dewars
Sophia Loren to Jayne Mansfield
My casual office uniform is an OCBD with cords or khakis and derbies or desert boots. Dress it up a touch with a jacket or sweater and tie.
Since you are someone who survived K&A, wear whatever you damn well like. It’s always been a tough neighborhood but nowadays is ground zero.
Ground zero feels like an upgrade at times

First of all: Ivy WHEN? Pre-heyday? Heyday? Waning/post-heyday?
Equally: which “Preppy”? “Love Story” Preppy? Lisa Birnach Preppy? PRL Preppy? Lululemon (sic) Preppy? “Anything-smarter-than-sweats-and-Crocs-is-Preppy” Preppy?
